Most Asked
What people ask us most.
How long does it take to build an ADU in San Diego County?
Timeline is scope-dependent. ADU type, site conditions, foundation, and finish level all affect the schedule. We set a written timeline before construction begins. Permits are a separate phase before the build.
How much does an ADU cost in San Diego County?
Pricing varies by type, square footage, and site conditions. Every estimate is written after a site walk. See the ADU service page for detail.
How much does a kitchen remodel cost in San Diego County?
Scope-dependent. Cosmetic refresh, custom cabinetry, layout reconfiguration, and finish level all change the number. We do not give phone-call price ranges. Estimate is written after a site walk.
What is SB 326 and does my HOA need to comply?
SB 326 is California state law requiring condominium HOAs with three or more multifamily units to have a licensed inspection of all exterior elevated elements every 9 years. The initial deadline was January 1, 2025. If your HOA owns multifamily structures and missed the deadline, the property is in the non-compliance phase.
What is SB 721 and how is it different?
SB 721 is the parallel law for rental properties with three or more units. AB 2579 amended SB 721 to extend the deadline for apartment buildings to January 1, 2026. Re-inspection every 6 years thereafter. SB 721 excludes HOAs.
Who can perform an SB 326 inspection?
A licensed architect or structural engineer. Cal Coast Construction is the remediation contractor — we do not perform the inspection itself. Once the inspection identifies issues, we scope, permit, and execute the repairs.
Do I need permits for a kitchen remodel?
Most San Diego County kitchen remodels need permits when plumbing or electrical moves, or when load-bearing walls change. Cosmetic-only refreshes sometimes do not. We pull permits where the jurisdiction requires them.
How do I verify Cal Coast Construction is licensed?
Our California Contractor License is #905391, classification B (General Building). Verify at the California Contractors State License Board website by searching for the license number or business name.
What does Cal Coast charge for an estimate?
Nothing. The site walk and written estimate are free. We respond to estimate requests same day in most cases. Call (619) 488-4748 or use the estimate request form.
What payment schedule does Cal Coast use?
Standard structure: deposit at contract signing, progress payments tied to construction milestones, final payment at substantial completion minus a retention balance held until the punch-list closes. Specific schedule is in every written estimate.
Does Cal Coast work with insurance claims?
Yes. We write Xactimate-format estimates, coordinate with adjusters, and submit supplements when the original scope misses damage. Water, fire, smoke, storm, and mold claims handled.
What areas of San Diego County does Cal Coast serve?
All of it. From Oceanside in the north to Chula Vista in the south, La Jolla on the coast to Escondido inland, plus everything between. Forty-plus cities total. The site has dedicated pages for the cities we work in most often.
